Hey so one of my 3 Bps refuses to eat pre-killed, i am still trying to switch, so please no patronizing I know pre-killed is the preferred method. I hold onto the tail of the mouse all the way until he strikes.
Back to the subject, my 270 gram male, Jack, got bit yesterday and I've never had a ball python get bit before, so I am curious if this is an intense injury or not. I've been cleaning it and applying non-painkiller neosporin since yesterday but need to know if it looks bad enough to take to the vet or fine. It looks like only scales are missing and he never even bled, is very calm and lets me clean him and doesn't flinch when I put neosporin on the wound.
Here are some images:

I have never personally dealt with a rat bite. It doesnt look to bad i would continue what you are doing and make sure you keep his enclosure clean and put him on paper towels if he isnt already. Wood shavings could be a pain with an open wound. I would post on other websites where people have first hand experience have you tried faunaclassifieds? There are plenty of well experienced people there that can help.

I would monitor it a couple times a day. If you see the wound starting to spread redness to surrounding areas or other signs of infection are present get it to a vet immediately. An Iodine anti septic should be applied as well.

Thank you for the advice, it already seems to be healing a bit and he already had newspaper bedding, i will keep an eye on it. Also where can I buy iodine anti septic, and how long should i continue to apply neosporin?

My personal opinion would be to take him to the vet and have them look at it and apply/give you some antibiotics and topical medication. He will shed more often so keep the humidity up and make sure his cage is always clean. Also, there is no reason for you to hold the rat by the tail when feeding live. Just don't leave the rat unsupervised when feeding and if he doesn't take within 5 mins you can remove the rat. Just in my opinion.
